Isnt working on Big Sur m1

I was really excited for a software like this, why isn't something so simple yet so important not yet built in? so I went with installing it on a computer. I downloaded on a different Mac than my main machine, in case it didnt work. and when I downloaded it on said device, it worked like a charm! so I moved over to my main computer and installed the 0.4.0 snapshot pkg, as it said other versions wouldn't work on Big Sur. so I dowloaded the software and restarted my device, didnt work. I restarted again, didnt work. I tried switching the audio outputs over and over again, and it still didnt work. I have no idea why it is not working on my side computer, but not my main. they both run the exact same version of os. maybe its to do with the fact that my main is an m1 mbp? i'm dumbfounded right now and probably will uninstall is I can't get it to work.

not working here as well on M1, not with VLC or Zoom audio. :-/

I don't have an M1 Mac, so someone else will need to do some debugging to figure this out. Or at least get some logs, though I'm not sure if that will help.

When you say it's not working, do you mean that you're still hearing audio while Background Music is running, but the app volume sliders have no effect? Or is it a different feature that isn't working?

When you have Background Music.app open, does your system's audio output device get set to the "Background Music" device? (You can check in System Preferences > Sound.)

The app seems to work for a bit, but when I try to change slider volume for an individual app, the audio disappears fully. after a restart its back. changing system volume (like for everything) works, but not individual app control. I had the output device as background music when I was using it.

Ok, after tweaking a bit to get some understanding. The app is working properly only after:

  1. Must reset the mac after install.
  2. Need to set the output device, under the mac sound preference to "background music". - > this must be done every time after any reset again for the app to work properly.

when it does works - its great - Thanks :-)

I didn't need to reboot to install it, but I also installed from source, and built it for M1. I did find that avconferenced needed to be restarted, though. Otherwise, the BackgroundMusic app would crash on startup.

  1. Must reset the mac after install.

Not needed

Thank you, this worked!
