the sequence * // results in strikethrough highlighting

I have noticed that the sequence * // always results in strikethrough syntax highlighting. E.g.: format %9.2f _est* // set this to round the output of the odds ratio and CI-bounds results in "format %9.2f _est* // set this to round the output of the odds ratio and CI-bounds" displayed in the editor.

Possibly it is a configuration error on my part, but I cannot track it down.

You can use log cursor scope through the command palette to see what keywords language-stata marks it with. But this most likely means that whatever text style you're using marks comments with a strikethrough with some reason.
