This is potentially fixed by https://github.com/zephyrproject-rtos/zephyr/pull/69480 . Assigning to @serhiy-katsyuba-intel as owner of the Zephyr fix.

In addition to #8672 @andyross submitted, there's https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/pull/8575 to address point (3) in upstream.

One week from branch point and this has not been started, moving to v2.10.

With #9060 merged, we can close this.
