Preserving Context for later communication with the network

Due to the lack of better example, I am not clear on how do I preserve the network context I received when my network was deployed.

The examples attempt to shutdown the network after the initial feed. In a non-stream feeder/executor scenario, how do I just start my network, preserve it for later use (shutdown, monitor etc).
