I had similar problems when trying to get Kraken support in Grid Control. Have a look at my Readme and "LibUSB installation", not sure if this is applicable for OpenHWControl but it may be worth installing the DLL's manually and see if that help. I never managed to get furhter with this in Grid Control.

Libusb is shipped with the exe but in a pip install it is not included and must be installed manually. I haven't gotten around to adding it and you should use the exe for Windows.

Used the exe installer and ended with the same result as the OP. Any suggestions on what i might try?
