Howdy y'all!

It's time to assemble the team for the Kubernetes v1.34 Release! Thanks so much to everyone for all your work over the last few months. We would not have made it here without you!

Please use this issue to nominate the lead for your role on the 1.34 release team. 🎉 Take a look at the Release Team Selection Process docs for details on the process and criteria.

Once role leads are nominated, I will send out the shadow application survey for selecting 1.34 shadows.

🎉 It's time to assemble a new Kubernetes Release Team!

It was my great honor to serve as the Release Lead for v1.33 alongside an incredible group of people. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone on the Kubernetes v1.33 Release Team — @kubernetes/release-team — for making this release possible! We did it!

I’d also like to give a few special shoutouts:

  • To @marosset for being my mentor on the enhancements team back in v1.27. I really appreciate the time you took answering questions and onboarding me into the world of Kubernetes!
  • To @fsmunoz, for starting my journey as Release Lead by nominating me and supporting me as a shadow during v1.32.
  • To @katcosgrove and @gracenng, for always being there with thoughtful advice, support and answering all my questions throughout the cycle.
  • And to @neoaggelos, my Emeritus Advisor this release, thank you for being a steady source of insight and encouragement throughout the cycle.

All of the Release Lead Shadows were amazing, I couldn’t have kept going without your help and steady support throughout the cycle! ❤

With that, I’m thrilled to nominate @Vyom-Yadav as the Kubernetes v1.34 Release Lead! He’s contributed in multiple roles across release cycles and has been a consistent, active presence on every team he’s been part of, even grabbing a laptop to help debug krel release notes issues with me at KubeCon NA. I have full confidence he’ll lead v1.34 with the same energy and care he’s brought to every release so far!

I’m so proud to say that v1.33 has been one of the smoothest Release Signal cycles I’ve ever been part of, and it absolutely wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible group of Release Signal shadows: @tico88612, @stmcginnis, @Rajalakshmi-Girish, @elieser1101, and @nitishfy 🥳🥳 👏.

In this release, 47 flaking and failing tests were either resolved or received timely follow-up before several critical moments in the release process. That's huge! 🏆 In Release Signal, at the end of the day when seeing community using Kubernetes, we can confidently say: the quality of this release is solid, because we all know that we really do our best to reach to that level in every single release.

Your collaboration, support for each other, and commitment in this cycle turned Release Signal into the something far from the stressful, high-pressure environment I used to worry about 💪. I'll forever grateful for all the late nights, early mornings, and behind-the-scenes work you all put, especially before each release cuts, even when I haven't asked for you all to do it. I hope you’ve learned a lot throughout this cycle and feel really proud of the work you’ve done.

🥁🥁 I’m also really excited to nominate Raji as the next Release Signal Lead for v1.34! Even as a first-time shadow, she brought a lot insights from sig-testing to the team, generously shared her knowledge of Testgrid and Prow, asked great questions, and even jumped in with PRs to improve testgrid stability where it mattered. Her dedication and reliability made a huge impact, and I can’t wait to see how the team grows under her leadership in v1.34.

And to Eli, ChengHao, Sean, Nitish, I really hope to see you all continue to stay active in the community. Keep up your good work, everyone!! ❤️

I also want to thanks our amazing Branch Managers, @jimangel and @mbianchidev, who stood side by side with the Release Signal team throughout all of the cuts in this cycle.

Big shoutout to @npolshakova for your constant support, guidance, and leadership. We’re all incredibly grateful to have had the chance to work with you on this release.

Last but not least, huge congratulations to @Vyom-Yadav 🎉 Most of folks may don't know that since v1.32 until now, even not directly work with Release Signal anymore, Vyom always check-in and providing us support no matter whether it's in his scope or not. I couldn't be happier to see him nominated. No doubt he’ll do an amazing job in v1.34 (you can start to think about the next logo now 😁😁).

What a great ride it has been with the v1.33 release! ...Though it's not yet over for the Comms space 🫣😂

First of all, I'd like to send a huge shoutout to my team -- @aibarbetta, @aakankshabhende @Udi-Hofesh and @sn3hay! It was a privilege to lead such great talents all of you are, and I just cannot thank you enough for sticking with me! Nobody had previous shadow experience with the Comms space before, and I am sure it was a challenging ride, where I feel I could have done a better job providing more clarity. In the beginning, it wasn't all so much happening for the Comms tasks, but in the last month or so, it was non-stop with Mid Cycle Blog, Release Highlights, Feature Blogs, and Release Announcement Blog. We had significant increase in the number of enhancements as well as blog opt-in, which meant we had so much more to cover in this release. All the relentless effort from the team has made the successful and timely Release Announcement possible, where we surpassed the previous record of 5277 words with thumping 7117 words in v1.33! I hope you all feel proud of the great achievement as a team! 🥳

Also, I'd like to thank @npolshakova for all her support throughout. There were several areas we collaborated closely, and in fact, there is still some more to come for our webinar in a few weeks time. It has been always enjoyable ride with so much I learned from you, and it was a great pleasure to work so closely with you!

I need to send special thanks to some more individuals, who really made the successful Comms work possible:

  • @mbianchidev Following from the previous release, you have been always available and helpful with any questions I had around the Comms tasks. I bothered you probably more than you expected me to 😅, but you were always positive, supportive, and trusting in my ability to carry out. Thank you so much for all the support, I really cannot think this journey would have been as enjoyable if I didn't have you on my back!
  • @katcosgrove @gracenng @neoaggelos Thank you all for supporting me with various check-ins as well as chasing for getting the balls moving. It was always great to see you all in meetings, backing us up whenever we had some doubts. While those actions may not be always highlighted as most important, I cannot appreciate enough how I had consistent support throughout my release team journey, even from the previous cycle!
  • @Vyom-Yadav You have been super proactive and supportive on the frequent check-ins, and ensured we were right on track. I felt having you at my back was so assuring, and there were a few occasions you covered my unplanned absence without a glitch. And of course, congrats on being nominated as the v1.34 Release Lead! I have no doubt you'd lead yet another successful release with your care and passion for the team and community!

Now, with our eyes set on the next v1.34 release, I'd like to touch on the Comms future -- I am extremely excited to nominate @aibarbetta as the Release Comms Lead for v1.34 release! While the Comms effort was teamwork, Agus was the one who carried out most of meeting coverage, follow-up, and significant amount of write-up, all well within the tight timeline. You asked many important questions for the team, came up with great ideas and suggestions, and I admire what a leader you truly are. I am more than certain you will be a great Comms Lead for the next cycle! (Of course, you can blame me on things that weren't dealt well in this round, and I will support you as an obedient servant 😉)

Finally, congrats for the successful release, everyone, and I hope to continue working with you in the future releases 🎉

Leading the Enhancements team for v1.33 has been an amazing experience! 🚀

Huge thanks to the incredible v1.33 Enhancement shadows - @ArkaSaha30 , @bianbbc87, @fykaa, @jenshu, and @lzung! Your hard work tracking over 90 KEPs for enhancement freeze and 60+ KEPs for code freeze was incredible - especially for our first-time shadows! 👏

At the pace we’re going, I'm making an early prediction: sometime soon, we’re going to smash past 100 KEPs... and whoever's Enhancements Lead then will need a medal (and maybe a vacation). 🏅✈️ Good luck future team!

I’m excited to nominate @jenshu as Enhancements Lead for v1.34! You've been doing amazing work over the past two cycles and I'm sure you’ll absolutely crush it leading the next release! 🎉

Congratulations to @Vyom-Yadav for being nominated as the next Release Lead! You've been doing fantastic work over the past few releases, and there’s no doubt you’ll do an awesome job leading the next one. So well deserved! 👏🎉

And of course, massive thanks to @npolshakova for captaining the v1.33 ship 👏🐉🎉

Congrats again to everyone who made the magic happen for v1.33! ✨🐲

It's been such a privilege to be part of this amazing v1.33 release journey! I want to extend my deepest thanks to my Comms teammates @aakankshabhende, @Udi-Hofesh, @sn3hay and @rytswd – contributing to that record-breaking Release Announcement was truly special, and the blogs we wrote together are a huge milestone for me that I'll cherish forever! ❤

@rytswd, I cannot thank you enough for your guidance throughout this process. You've always had kind and supportive words for all of us, you were always available to answer our questions quickly, and you created such an open and transparent environment for our team. I want to especially highlight this last point – when I got your message to join the release comms team, I felt both excited and nervous as this was my first time participating in the Release team, and I was going through some family stuff at the time. Your openness from that very initial moment gave me the confidence I needed to feel reassured that I'd made a great choice. Your leadership has truly inspired me, and I hope I can continue to deliver with the same excellent human and technical quality you demonstrated in this release. I'm honored by your nomination for me to be the Release Comms Lead for v1.34! Thank you for your trust and confidence in me. I'm excited to build on what we've accomplished together.

Finally, a huge thank you to the entire Release Team – you all have excellent work ethics and it has been a real pleasure to join you for v1.33. I'm looking forward to working with and getting to know all of you more in v1.34! 🎉

It has been an honor to lead Docs for the 1.33 release. I had an awesome experience working with everyone!

A huge shoutout to all my shadows. without them, it could have been much harder. @cloudmelon, @sreeram-venkitesh, @michellengnx, @ArvindParekh, @hacktivist123 and @Urvashi0109 This cycle brought additional responsibility with the merger of Docs and Release Notes teams, and I know it wasn’t an easy ride. But everyone was exceptional. 👏

Congratulations to @Vyom-Yadav, your work over the past release cycles has been fantastic. Well deserved! 🥳

I would also like to thank @npolshakova for all the support from the beginning. We’ve worked together in previous releases as well, and it’s been a pleasure working with you. I’ve learned so much over time. 🎉

Special thanks to:

  • @chanieljdan who has helped me from the start, walking me through the Docs responsibilities. I had never worked with the Docs team before, but I had worked with Release Notes for two consecutive releases. Daniel has been instrumental at each phase, always offering advice and help when needed.
  • @reylejano without whom I wouldn’t have been able to complete all the tasks on release day and the prior release tasks. Your support has been invaluable.

For the upcoming release cycle, I’m excited to nominate @michellengnx as the 1.34 Docs lead. She has worked on Docs in the last two cycles, and I believe she will lead Docs exceptionally well for the upcoming release.

Congratulations again, and thanks to everyone who made the 1.33 release smooth. ❤
