Allow to change path-matching policy to first-match

Open vojkny opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Currently, nginx matches paths according to documentation:

In order to enable more accurate path matching, ingress-nginx first orders the paths by descending length before writing them to the NGINX template as location blocks.

This might be useful if the developer is unable to prioritize the paths properly. However, this behaviour prevent us from implementing this:

          - path: /(legacy/.*)
            backend: […]
          - path: /([^/]+?)/([^/]+?)/([^/]+?)[/]?)$
            backend: […]

Now consider following path:

/legacy/one/two/

Even though I wanted to prioritize the prefixed /legacy path in the first place, this rule prevents us from doing so. Currently there is no easy way of implementing this.

The only (and really hacky) solution I found is this:

          - path: /((legacy|legacy|legacy|legacy|legacy|legacy|legacy|legacy|legacy)/.*)
            backend: […]
          - path: /(((cs|de|en|pl|sk)/)?([^/]+?)/([^/]+?)/([^/]+?)[/]?)$
            backend: […]

I hope we can agree, this is really not cool 😇 .

I guess behaviour cannot be removed now as it would break current configurations, but would it be possible to implement configuration option, which would allow to disable the behaviour?

- path: /(legacy/.*)
            backend: […]
          - path: /([^/]+?)/([^/]+?)/([^/]+?)[/]?)$
            backend: […]

does the second regexp match the first one as well

Yes, they are matching, that is why I need to keep the order like regular nginx. The problem with nginx ingress is that it changes the order. Please see the full description of the issue.

Please stop this strange sorting and keep the original nginx way 🙏
