Need clarification on how to use external-auth as user and passwd does not get replaced

Open lappanna opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

I have an ingress with below annotations

 annotations:
    kubernetes.io/ingress.class: public-iks-k8s-nginx
    nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/auth-response-headers: Authorization
    nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/auth-url: https://somehost.domain.com/basic-auth/user/passwd
    nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/backend-protocol: GRPCS
    nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/configuration-snippet: |

which is created as per below document https://github.com/kubernetes/ingress-nginx/tree/main/docs/examples/auth/external-auth

I see that the auth-url always gets called with user as user and passwd as password instead of being passed with the userid and pwd from url.

Eg: grpc+tls://userl:pwdl@somehost:443 For the above example I expect the external auth-url to be passed with

https://somehost.domain.com/basic-auth/userl/pwdl

/remove-kind bug /kind support

I think it will help if you post the information requested in the issue template. After that, I think you can help by showing output of kubectl describe and kubectl logs command for the curl command you typed to try the feature and the verbose response to that curl command. You will also need to show the logs of the ingress-nginx controller that relate to your curl command.

You may also get many people to look at this if you discuss this at Kubernetes.slack.com in the ingress-nginx-users channel. There are less resources here and there are lots of people on slack, who can potentially help you get a solution.
