Proposal: Logo design for Kustomize

What would you like to have added?

I’d like to propose a new logo design for the Kustomize project.

This idea is independent from Issue #5983, While I appreciate the ongoing discussion there, this is a different design direction.

Design Concept

1. The inspiration comes from the project’s name: Kubernetes + Customize. A good name can spark good design.
2. Kustomize is closely tied to kubectl, whose logo features octopus tentacles as a mascot.
3. Similarly, Krew, the kubectl plugin manager, also uses tentacles in its logo. That motif inspired me as well.
4. Since Kustomize enables configuration customization, the wrench is a natural symbol here.
5. Overall, the logo looks like kubectl handing you a tool, making it easier to modify configurations.
6. For the text, I used the Ubuntu Bold typeface for a clean and approachable look.

Attribution & Licensing

I created this logo and happy to contribute it under the project's Apache-2.0 license, with attribution as appropriate. I’ll gladly provide the SVG source file. No pressure at all to use it—please feel free to pass if it doesn’t align with the community vision.

Why is this needed?

I believe Kustomize would benefit from a more distinctive logo—something that not only improves recognition but also captures the fun and character of the community.

Can you accomplish the motivating task without this feature, and if so, how?

Yes, the motivating task—customizing Kubernetes configurations—can certainly be accomplished without a logo. The tool itself is functional and widely used. However, a distinctive logo helps improve recognition, fosters community identity, and makes the project more approachable for newcomers. Without this feature, the project would still work technically, but it might miss opportunities for broader engagement and visual cohesion across related tools.

What other solutions have you considered?

At this stage, I haven’t actively explored alternative logo directions yet, as I’d like to first gather feedback on the initial concept. Once I better understand the community’s preferences or concerns, I’ll be happy to iterate or explore other visual approaches.
