panic log level isn't working to expectations

Open justinabrahms opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

What happened: I specified the log level of "panic"

What you expected to happen: I got more logs than "debug"

How to reproduce it (as minimally and precisely as possible): Use panic log level.

Anything else we need to know?:

In https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/external-dns/blob/7ddc9daba70794e7a9fa77e664b5d60e1e8322f6/pkg/apis/externaldns/types.go#L600 it says:

Set the level of logging. (default: info, options: panic, debug, info, warning, error, fatal"

First, it's missing a trailing ) in the output. Second, panic makes it sound like it should be more verbose than debug, but in reality.. it doesn't show debug messages.

Given you're using logrus, these are the levels: https://github.com/sirupsen/logrus#level-logging

I think panic should be at the end and you want trace where panic is (not that y'all use trace)

Environment:

  • External-DNS version (use external-dns --version):
  • DNS provider:
  • Others:
