Gateway HTTPRoute: incorrect parent reference

Open gmagniez opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

What happened: external-dns is using the status field of the gateway routes which leads to generate a dns entries with old and new load-balancer when changing the parent of a route. The status field keeps conditions about the old parent gateway. What you expected to happen: external-dns is using the parentRefs field instead of the status to get the parents list.

How to reproduce it (as minimally and precisely as possible): Create one route and 2 gateways and update the parentRef of the route. the DNS entry gets 2 ip adresses and the request fails 50% of the time as the old gateway is no more handling the route.

Anything else we need to know?: https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/external-dns/blob/master/source/gateway.go#L298 Environment:

  • External-DNS version (use external-dns --version): 0.12.2
  • DNS provider: Google CloudDNS
  • Others: Google GKE Gateaway implementation

Please provide a sample Gateway resource, the expected result, and the actual result.
