When the service account role arn annotation is updated, it doesn't trigger a rollout restart of the deployment

Open paul-civitas opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Describe the bug When you update the annotation of the service account to reflect a new role, that role isn't picked up by the alb controller. It's required to manually do a rollout restart to get it picked up.

Steps to reproduce Set up the ALB controller via the helm chart. Create a new IAM role, same role with a different name. Update the alb controller service account to point to the new role. Notice that your ALB controller is 403ing. To get it to work you need to rollout restart the deployment to pick up the change.

Expected outcome Changes to the service account are picked up automatically.

Environment

  • AWS Load Balancer controller version helm chart 1.4.0
  • EKS 1.22

@paul-civitas, this is not a controller limitation. You will have to restart the deployment manually if you make changes to the service account annotation.

Isn't there any sort of way to make it so that making such a change wouldn't require manual intervention?
