Recently released v3.3.0 has an improvement to font measurements in player initialization which has a chance to solve the above problem. You may want to give it a try.

Since we found this to be an edge case, and player's behaviour is consistent with most popular terminal emulators, I'm going to close this for now.

I have potential solution ready in #215. Need to do some cross-browser testing before I merge but it looks promising.
