Running on Windows 11 machine

Open kayaulai opened this issue 10 months ago • 4 comments

Dear developers,

I am currently running the auto_conv script on Windows. I have mounted the CD-ROM on D:\ . I have also changed the EOL from CRLF to LF, saving the new script as auto_convo_edited.

This was what I entered in Cygwin: ./auto_conv_edited -d d:/

And the result: Not found: d://mai95.txt Usage: ./auto_conv_edited [-d cdrom_dir]

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have attempted to install using the Mainichi Shinbun instructions, which says to double click SETUP.EXE, but it does not appear to run on my operating system, presumably because the program is too old.

Thank you!

If you are using Cygwin, you might need to try /cygdrive/d instead of d:/.

Thank you very much for such a fast reply! Unfortunately, I have got a similar error:

Not found: /cygdrive/d/mai95.txt Usage: ./auto_conv_edited [-d cdrom_dir]

However, I am able to cd to /cygdrive/d/ and see the list of files. There doesn't appear to be any text files that I can find - is it because of some issues with setting up the disk? Thanks again!

Debugging through issue comments can be challenging. You need to locate the Cygwin path to the directory containing either MAI95.txt or MAI1995.txt. If you locate the file in Explorer, consider copying it to a directory on the C drive for easier access.

Thank you very much again! Unfortunately, I have looked through all the subdirectories of the disc and was unable to locate MAI95.txt or MAI1995.txt. I am wondering if this is because I was unable to run the SETUP.EXE, or I do not have the correct edition of the CD? The version I have has the words CD-毎日新聞'95 CD Answer版 (Mac, Windows, MS-DOS, DOS/V 対応) on the cover.

This is what the top level of the disc looks like in my Explorer: image

Thank you again!
