"Master password incorrect" when no master password
In Firefox, the "use a master password" box is NOT checked; however, when I hit Export Passwords in FF Password Exporter, a message pops up that says "Error: Master password incorrect". FF Password Exporter's "Firefox Master Password (if you set one)" field is empty. I'm using Firefox 60.0.2 on Windows 10.
Also seeing this same problem with version 1.0.1 and Firefox-61.0.1 (on Linux).
Hello, I have same problem on Windows 10 64bit with Firefox 61.0.1 (64 bits). The workaround I have found : you must define a master password in Firefox => now you can export password with FF-Password-Exporter-Portable-1.0.1.exe
Not sure i'd call it a work around if I have to fundamentally change how I use Firefox just to get this tool to work at all.
tool doesn't work for me at all (firefox x64 v64.0.2 on windows 10). when I had no master password set, ff-password-exporter said incorrect password. now, after setting a master password, ff-password-exporter says: "Error: Too few bytes to read ASN.1 value."
@kspearrin 5 different people want to use your code, and you ignored all of them for over 6 months, only to make snarky comments later? If you lack the time, motivation, or competence to support your code, just say so. No need for the attitude.

No master password gives an error that it's incorrect. I set one and then it tells me it can't read ASN.1 data. FF 68.0.1 and just now downloaded the exporter installer from github. Bitwarden is doing you a disservice recommending your app if it can't perform its intended function. I'm no programmer, but what kind of help are you wanting/expecting?
Hello, I see other people try to solve this old problem. I have retry to use FF-Password-Exporter-Portable-1.0.1.exe and FF-Password-Exporter-Portable-1.1.1.exe, but now I use Firefox 68.0.1 64bit => I have no problem to export password, without define a master password. I have try with a master password and it's works also.
One year ago, I wanted use FF Password-Exporter in order to backup firefox to install it on a new computer. But instead I copy/paste important files describe on this page : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile
May be backup your profile, reinstall firefox, copy important files and try again FF Password-Exporter...
The same problem here on Firefox 69.0.3 on mac. No master password was set but export still complains it is wrong. I had to set a dummy master password in FF and then the export succeeded.
FF Password Exporter gives error so my password is correct but it gives still error respond so what is the solution? This program must be UPDATE, because last update is "December 6/ 2018" so and than maybe will be fine OK? Please read me and answer me OK? Thanks

I just tried first time to use this app. I selected manually the profile (it chooses an old one and would not find my recent ones automatically - not sure if this is somehow related). I double checked but I have no master password set. I click on export and get the error message "Error: Master password incorrect". Nothing else happens.
What password do I need to enter here? Please let me know. If this helps: I have never set any master password on any of my profiles. The profile is quite old, it was ported from previous firefox version, had so far no issues in "quantum" world with it
I just tried a different tool to extract passwords. The problem here is not related to the password exporter.
The actual problem is on the firefox API itself. It requests a master profile even though no one was set and empty passwords do not work either. I guess it's a compatibility issue with certain profiles.
This problems needs to be reported/forwarded to firefox.
