No longer works. False error "Master password incorrect".
Very disappointing that I used this about a year ago to extract my Firefox passwords and it no longer works. Every attempt produces the false error message Error: Master password incorrect.
Since I have only one profile and it finds the profile correctly, it can't be an issue with profiles.
Just tested on Linux and Windows and it is working with the newest version of Firefox (78), both with and without a master password.
Please add more details about Operating System and instance..
I just tried it again with the same result. I'm using Windows 10 Pro ver. 1909 build 18363.900 and Firefox 78.0.1 both 64-bit. I have verified that the tool is finding the correct (and only) profile. I'm logged in as a standard user and launching it as a standard user, since I want to export my standard user passwords. I have tried launching the tool as an administrator then pointing it to my standard user Firefox profile and I get the same error. I have tried to leave the master password field blank (even though I do have a master password set) and I get the same error. So nothing that I've tried works and always says the master password is wrong.
Just come across Password-Exporter and the same problem with incorrect password.
I found a solution for Firefox 78.0.2 (64 bit):-
- Deselect the 'Use Master Password' in Firefox;
- Run Password-Exporter;
- REINSTATE YOUR MASTER PASSWORD in Firefox.
I hope that this helps others.
Thank you. I had completely forgotten that this is what I had to do in the past when this failed.
Please let me assert that this is NOT a solution. It is a work-around. This defect should still be fixed.
Steveveach: Glad it helps.
BTW: Thank you to the author of the application; it is really useful to be able to keep a list of all the various logins and passwords I use in Firefox.
I found that this problem is related to firefox API and not this tool. I have a different tool that behaves exactly the same. It depends where the passwords are stored and how they are / were stored.
sounds stupid , because if you remove your master key to be able export passwords you exposing your data to danger of being stole.
