Buffer waveform around pick for processing

May be paranoid, but it is safer to buffer more waveform data for processing (and trim it off later).

Good idea. Also makes it look nicer at the beginning and end. I guess it has almost no effect on the actual download time because SeisHub has to open the whole file anyway.

Well.. it's not about "looks" but about avoiding artifacts that could influence the spectrum.. ;) And yes, download time is not affected (90% of time go into opening the file on the nfs mount).
