HDMI keeps dropping signal. No audio over HDMI

I tried out the HDMI port over the holidays with a 60" LCD TV and the signal kept dropping and disconnecting randomly. I ruled out the HDMI->HDMI cable as we were able to watch a movie uninterrupted with a MacBook connected to the same HDMI cable. Also when it was able to connected the 60" TV display was flickering/pulsing badly. Is HDMI and the Yoga 260 a known issue in macOS? Does the miniDP work better?
