Yes this issue is caused by the default value PyXB implementation details of the type permit. It is a PyXB bug and needs working around

Some scripts still need testing but to what extent. I am having difficulties testing things that would otherwise need to be mocked out... such as long running consumers and producers...

well do you want to implement all the ebuttd constraints when we did not even cover the live ones completely either? just think about facets
