It would be awesome to be able to slurp JSON from a web endpoint inside session and have it be available as a value to manipulate.

I agree.

Session uses merchant, https://github.com/kovasb/merchant . The goal of merchant is to be like Import and Export in Mathematica. Two functions that handle a ton of formats in a very consistent way.

The idea that we go and find a new library for every data format we need to use is insanity.

The current read-edn, write-edn in Session has a few levels of indirection before it gets to merchant; I want to cut out those levels and just have 2 top level entry points covering all formats.
