SA-30 on LS40
Hi,
I have now a modified LS40, and I run in the issue that only 6 pictures are scanned before the film is ejected, how can I help to get this fixed as well?
Best, Tom
Hmm, shall I close this and regard the issue as dead, or are people still interested working on this?
Thanks, Tom
It's not dead - it's resting. Someone will come over one day and fix it - when they have time... it should be possible.
For those who are computer savvy and want to try fixing this issue: it's the equivalent of doing this:
https://github.com/kosma/coolscan-mods/issues/4#issuecomment-2409129170 https://github.com/kosma/coolscan-mods/pull/7/files
but for LS-40. It's a simple binary patching to change the register address.

I'm not so computer savvy. maybe if you can re-route the signal from the SA-30 proximity sensors directly onto the three pins on the ls40 motherboard, maybe that would do something however if timing is important then that also would not work. perhaps if you were able to record the signal on the 3 pins on a working coolscan 4000 you could try replay that signal back into those three pins on the 40ed with some device, therefore tricking the machine into thinking it's getting that same signal and therefore accepting a whole roll of 40. The only way I would really know how to fix this is actually having the coolscan 4000 part responsible for the the film exit path with all the correct sensors. Everything else is beyond my skills at the moment.
EXPERIMENTAL UNTESTED RELEASE now available for the brave:

Will test on the weekend, don't have a windows device ready to flash the FW.
Okay, couldn't sit still with waiting and set up a VM - flashed the firmware, and it works flawlessly, thank you very very much!
cool how did you fix it? what was the breakthrough?
There was no breakthrough, I literally adapted #7 to work on LS-40. It was about 5 minutes of work. 😭
