smartparens matches quotes

I believe smartparens should be disabled for the quote symbol (')

the problem is: when using smartparens typing a quote ('), also inserts a matching quote, which I believe is unwanted for any newlisp programmer, in most lisp modes I've used this doesn't happen, I can setup smartparens manually, but when I tried to make it work with a hook, for some reason I need to load the mode twice before it works (atleast on my spacemacs setup).

I believe the maintainer of this would know how to fix this (I'm not very experienced with elisp)
