FR: Reading timer when streaming content using OPDS-PSE

Open SqueezedByte opened this issue 8 months ago • 6 comments

Does your feature request involve difficulty completing a task? Please describe. When reading with OPDS Page Stream the timer for reading don't record anything

Describe the solution you'd like If possible it will be great to have the time reading also monitored for that.

Thanks in advance.

If you mean the statistics, highly unlikely, you do not open a book when streaming.

Related as to why highly unlikely: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/issues/13361#issuecomment-2695389208

Think about making this a real Document object, that will use ReaderPaging with all the options (fit, columns, crop...) that we have with PDF or CBZ, + statistics, resume to last page, etc... Using ImageViewer is just a crappy hack just enough for previewing.

Fine, no timer :)

Just a little thing on the OPDS per se in Kindle (last version avaiable) to not open another issue. When you click to download a book via OPDS the UI freeze and remain freezed until it end the download. At that point it show fast the "Wait, downloading" to pass to the "Read now" alert dialog.

That possibly makes sense, the feature was not really engineered to download massive CBZs.

(Compare to, say, Wikipedia downloads, which you can interrupt... because there are multiple files involved. I'm not even sure we technically could make a single request interruptible).

We almost certainly can. There's an example of it in the Lua manual actually.

Here it is: https://www.lua.org/pil/9.4.html

Edit: or maybe not, now I'm not sure after reskimming it instead of vaguely remembering it from years ago.
