So this should work with a virtualized network (overlay environment) where the clients are actually on separate physical LANs (VPN, wireguard, vxlan)

I did try it with Tailscale on my Mac and it worked, so it does work. It was very finicky though... I didn't actually quit arpchat or have any other clients connect but it shows that i disconnected and reconnected before actually sending messages, and it took a while for messages to deliver (upwards of 20-40 seconds). That could just be Tailscale being quirky though image

I tested it with Zerotier using three servers in three different countries, and aside from a latency of about 15-20 seconds, it works just fine. I didn't experience any random disconnecting.

A transport that is more restrictive than CAN. Definitely worthwhile.
