i have this issue too. i leave kontrol running under systemd user mode, and eventually the /kites/kontrol key in etcd expires, and i need to restart kontrol to fix it.

Thanks for the issue. We use Postgres in production for the underlying storage so that is one of the reason we didn't see this :/ I'll look once I have time.
