The latest download link at http://www.kode54.net/bassmididrv/ as of writing does not install properly on Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Have tried installing with disabled firewall, rebooting between attempts, safe mode and forcing Run as Administrator.

Copying driver and synth... Output folder: C:\Windows\SysWow64\bassmididrv Extract: bass.dll Extract: bassflac.dll Extract: basswv.dll Extract: bassopus.dll Extract: bass_mpc.dll Extract: bassmidi.dll Extract: bassmididrv.dll Extract: bassmididrvcfg.exe Extract: sfpacker.exe Output folder: C:\Windows\SysNative\bassmididrv Extract: bass.dll Extract: bassflac.dll Extract: basswv.dll Extract: bassopus.dll Extract: bass_mpc.dll Extract: bassmidi.dll Can't write: C:\Windows\SysNative\bassmididrv\bassmididrv.dll

Oddly, 3.1 and previous versions from the kode54.net archive install and runs just fine.

That is likely because something already has the driver open. Unfortunately, you may have to uninstall and log out or even reboot to upgrade.

Managed to get it to work, though only through the help of a program called Unlocker. There bassmididrv.dll and the System32 folder it was in were being used by Windows, even when the program was "uninstalled" and even in safe mode. Unlocker reported the folder to be used by four handles of explorer.exe.

Install > Reboot > Uninstall > Reboot > Retry install did not work no matter the firewall, Administrator settings, etc as outlined above. The only thing that worked was force-deleting them with Unlocker, then rebooting. Works like a charm, now.

This issue is still persisting in the latest version.

The driver itself has problems closing with host applications. Whenever I use anything related to this driver, the process stays open.

To reproduce the issue it's pretty simple, just open any MIDI player or sequencer, open the driver and close the application - process stays open with the driver itself.

Not only that, but the driver stays opened even if the application that was using the driver is closed.
