Allow Creating Folders to Organize Media

Open arbialexandri opened this issue 9 months ago • 5 comments

It would be useful to allow creating folders under media upload location from the UI to better organize the uploaded files. Of course, search feature needs to be extended to find files under different folders in this case.

I wanted to follow up on this request as automated system has notified it will close this request due to being idle for 90 days. I hope this can be considered in near releases.

Note: the folders don't even need to be physical folders, but rather virtual. It is totally up to the implementation if physical folders (preferred) or virtual ones are used.

@vividvilla you may be interested in picking this up. A simple tags[] field in the media table with tagging on the UI can solve this UX problem. listmonk already has tags[] on lists and subscribers.

Here is the implementation plan:

  • Introduce new tags field to media. Just as it's done on campaigns and lists.
  • Revamp media gallery slightly to add different view modes - grid and list.
  • Keep grid mode as the default view.
  • Add option to edit media (currently only delete option is available) which can be used to edit tags of the particular item.
  • Show tags field next to "Upload" which will be the tags assigned to the uploaded media.
  • Add multiselect to the table and allow bulk deleting.

PR is in WIP, will post updates here.

If the media section gets revamped, would it be conceivable to integrate a permission system to media management as per #2554, to prevent users to edit/delete media uploaded by other users?
