Graphically display line/station volume

Open drdru7029 opened this issue 3 years ago • 6 comments

One thing I think is missing from all transport managers is the ability to view line and station use graphically, i.e. the lines/stations would have an option to be color coded based on volume of use. This would help greatly to identify the most and least used lines, plan zoning/future development based on footfall, coordinate line strategies, improve lesser used lines, etc.

The map export function is amazing and already lays the groundwork for this-- if there were another view option to see the network map colored based on use it would be a game changer in my opinion.

TBH, this is already planned for TLM. The main issue is the game default UI tools, too heavy to display graphics or extended data, but the data itself, as well the last 24h data, from each station is being saved inside the savegame already, just needing to show it somewhere.

That's great news, excited that it's being planned. Just wondering-- would the map exporter function relieve some of the burden on the default UI to display this data? Since it's being output outside of the game itself.

The exported map already have a lot of extra data. And it could be an option. TBH, anyone could do a single page application to read the data and make a good data navigation from the exported data. In the background of the map, there's a huge json data, that can be used in any way you want, if you know how to handle json files.

I'm looking at it now, thanks for pointing that out. Does this json file already contain the station use counts? If so, would you be able to tell me the variable name for this? I can't seem to find it so far. If this data is already present I could put together a python script to graph this by station and line, at least until it comes out officially for TLM.

Well, actually there's no history data in json yet But, I could add them and create a document detailing all the paths of it. Wait for news in this subject in next update ( no date for it yet, but probably next month)

That would be perfect. Thanks for the great work you do.
