Multiple unconnected volumes in one STL

Open TopherMan opened this issue 12 years ago • 1 comments

I just learned about this project the other day, and I like it! One issue I've run into, though. If an .stl file contains multiple independent volumes, it will sometimes arrange them such that some of the volumes overhang the prescribed build area. For example, this plate: plate00

The .stl file containing the large gear in the middle-left also has a smaller gear, and the wade's extruder in the bottom-left also has the idler. When opened in Cura, it looks like this: screenshot from 2013-10-24 12 39 13

You can see the extra gear overhanging the left edge, and the idler overhanging the bottom. When I split those files it works fine, but it would be handy if either it caught this and dealt with it, or at least gave a warning when it occurred.

For reference, these are the arguments I used for this particular plate:

./sa -x 180 -y 180 -r 5 -p 1

Though the behavior occurs at default -r and -p.

Thanks!

I just wanted to report the exact same issue. With this file http://churchyard.fedorapeople.org/wade-plate.stl (what I believe originated here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6713): run simarrange with this file only, default options.

You'll get attached output: plate00 simarrange
