Support cloning (and control deep/shallow easily)

Right now there is no support for cloning (converting from type Foo to type Foo.

We need to be able to easily control where we want to create a new instance (deep clone) or just copy the reference (shallow copy).

Coming up with a reasonable rule for controlling those would be ideal
