Increase donation methods to support the build of chrome extension version
It is very necessary to make a chrome extension version, Chrome has the largest users: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers#Summary_tables
In the near future, CanvasBlocker is hard to rely on Firefox users to improve. It is likely that CanvasBlocker will no longer be maintained because fewer and fewer Firefox users. Chrome's huge users will make CanvasBlocker improve faster and better. Not letting you give up Firefox users, you can still continue to maintain Firefox version when you build the Chrome version.
Chrome's current canvas camouflage extension has a variety of wrong issues, and the author does not fix it. CanvasBlocker go into the Chrome extension will be the only best canvas camouflage extension. Our Chrome users are now in desperate need of a perfect extension like CanvasBlocker. And kkapsner is very diligent to continuously improve CanvasBlocker, and recently added voice fingerprint protection, we need you such a good developer. As long as you have the will, there may be chrome developers to help you.
Don't be shy, our Chrome users are happy to donate such a great CanvasBlocker, please increase the donation method, like paypal, etc., so that all chrome users can support your work.
As mentioned in #145 I do not see a way to provide CB to Chrome with the same quality. (See also https://github.com/ghacksuserjs/ghacks-user.js/issues/458)
I would first have to do a lot of research if there is any other way to provide the same level of privacy/security in Chrome. With a very low chance of success.
But your suggestion to add other donation methods is legit and I will see when I will have the time to set something up.
Hello,
Is there any amount of money that would allow you to justify taking the time to do the research you say is required to even see if it is possible to create an extension from chrome with the same level of security?
And if not he exact same level of security, but perhaps a level of security not offered by existing extensions. As I know there are methods of obtaining an original canvas fingerprint even when some extensions attempt to spoof/hide such attempts, if I recall reading correctly your firefox addon can defend against such methods (correct me if I'm wrong) though techniques not currently available in any current chrome addon.
I'm just curious if your time to do the research required, not even the complete creation of a chrome edition, is something that you find if perhaps you were paid for that time. If it is a possibility, I'd be willing to donate as much as I can to that effort. I hope this request does not come off as callous, as I do not mean to insinuate you are the type of person that would require payment to such public-goods as your existing work is more than enough evidence that no one could ever insinuate such defamation of character. I just know you probably work, have a life outside this sort of stuff, and that time for these types of projects is few and far between - recognizing that is why I ask if any amount of money could justify the research.
Thank you so much for the work you have done so far, I can't express my gratitude to individuals like yourself create privacy tools for the public good.
Cheers
I try to defend against as many methods as possible. Some anti-fingerprinting addons are quite lazy as they only defend against the vector that was published and do not investigate the APIs a little bit more (e.g. in the audio API there are two ways to read the content of an audio stream and (obviously) only one was used in the publication)
At the moment it's less a money thing than a time constraint that I cannot work on CB for Chrome. But the research is ongoing.
So to answer your question: thanks for the offer to donate for this but at the moment I simply do not have the time. (And as far as my research went until now I could only offer a version of CB with reduced functionality.)
