Could we get the file /ntrboot/ntrboot.log on the SD card after trying the the R4i Gold option?
The SD card in your 3DS -- unless, I guess, you're using the ds flasher, in which case I don't think a log file is actually created. :/

At the very least, we need time-outs so that we don't infloop and get stuck forever. (probably an error return if the timeout has to trigger.)
have you tried with the r4i-sdhc code?
