Kite ran in the background without being opened

Open Sargeanthost opened this issue 4 years ago • 7 comments

I was browsing on the web when I got a notification that Kite had network activity. I checked my processes and it was running. I haven't used kite in months and had it turned off on startup. I'm not really sure how it could have activated by itself.

It's possible that you were using an IDE with our plugin still installed. In some cases, if the plugin detects that the Kite app is not active, it'll start it.

If that wasn't the case, please let us know, as well as the OS you're on.

Hello, Windows 10. I was using VSCode, but I had uninstalled the extension. I have checked task manager other times while VSCode was open and I hadn't seen Kite running; this was the only time I have seen this behavior.

@Sargeanthost It seems like the Kite app is still installed on the system. By default, it'll start itself when the system reboots. This behavior can be toggled off in our settings menu.

If you want to uninstall Kite completely, check out https://help.kite.com/article/68-how-to-uninstall-kite. We're looking at improving the process so please let me know if you encounter any pain points here.

It was disabled on startup which is what I don't get. Anyhow, it's uninstalled, but still very weird that the process was running without me promoting it to.

Ah right, sorry for missing that. That's definitely unexpected, we'll have to investigate this further and see why it happened to you.
