Legacy Update on Server 2003 Standard SP2 stuck on Checking for Updates
First off, as a disclaimer, at the time of posting, I'm an employee of Microsoft. However, I do not work on Windows and cannot speak for the Windows team. I do fully appreciate the work you did with Legacy Update.
Going back, I have set up both a Windows 2000 Server SP4 and Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2 VMs on my Rocky Linux 9 server. I installed Legacy Update on both, and both are using IE6.
My 2000 VM is technically 30 minutes newer (not exact) and was able to install updates, and yet 2003 stays frozen on checking for updates. Maybe there aren't any updates for 2003 posted, so it stays stuck. Even then, we really should make Server 2003 updates work.
Can we make 2003 LU work? Is there anything I can do myself?
2000 on the left, 2003 on the right.
Hi Neel,
The initial check for Server 2003 tends to take a very long time. On some systems I've had it take over three hours to run. There were a lot of updates which were superseded during it's timeframe. If you have Automatic Updates turned on, you might find that the shield appears in the notifications area of your taskbar as well when it's finished. Both the Automatic Updates Taskbar method and the LU Website both work well on 2003, but they tend to take a while to do their initial checks.
I’m having this issue too. The other day it ran for a few hours and I eventually fell asleep. It was still hung on this when I woke up So I gave up.
