Hi Sir! I have created this githhub account Just to thanks you! I have used many times github, but never registered. I was losing my mind installing Mac on my elitebook 840 g5. Now, i have an almost 100% working hsckintosh CATALINA by the way.

The only problems: middle mouse joystick is not working, and I have no camera nor the smart card reader (for ID cards). Dont know if it is possible to make it work or not..

Other than that, its super! Once again, thanks you

Joaotcs avatar Nov 22 '19 23:11 Joaotcs

Hey,

Thanks for your kind words! This is what the open source and the Hackintosh community is about: sharing.

The middle mouse joystick indeed doesn't work, I forgot to mention since the trackpad works perfectly. I thought nobody will use it anyway.

I'm pretty sure the camera can be fixed quite easily but honestly for now, I don't have the time for it. If it's already recognized in someway, we must be close. If by any chance you find a way to make it work, feel free to post it!

I will have a look at the smart card reader but I have little hope that there is a chance it can work.

kinoute avatar Nov 23 '19 15:11 kinoute

I have also realized that when I use any keyboard key, the touchpad is unresponsive for 1 second. Is it fixable? Regards

Joaotcs avatar Nov 23 '19 21:11 Joaotcs

Another thing, have you tested this with opencore instead of clover? I am thinking to migrate, don't know if the config.plist is compatible or not.

Joaotcs avatar Nov 23 '19 22:11 Joaotcs

I haven't tested OpenCore on any of my hackintoshes. It's too new and a different piece of software. Since I use this laptop for serious stuff at work, I prefer to stay on a stable install for now as everything I need works.

kinoute avatar Nov 24 '19 17:11 kinoute

I see. One last problem I have seen. I have now problems. Sometimes, when the screen gets black it stays black. (I think it's problem called "wake up black screen"). I have done some modification (fixed hibernation with hackintool, as I was advised to do so - I think it changed the hibernatemode to 0 and it was 3. and it changed proximitywake to 0 also).

Do you have any workaround?

Regards

Joaotcs avatar Nov 25 '19 14:11 Joaotcs

I don't know, I set up hibernate mode and proximity wake to 0 as well. Here is my Power Management according to Hackintool:

Capture d’écran 2019-11-25 à 16 01 18

If you don't have the same values, you can click on the bottom middle icon (or change settings manually with pmset -g in the terminal).

We don't have exactly the same model, that might be a problem.

kinoute avatar Nov 25 '19 15:11 kinoute

Also check your BIOS Settings and check mine in my repo, the settings related to Power Managements.

kinoute avatar Nov 25 '19 15:11 kinoute

Hello again! I have discovered a problem I am trying to fix it.. HDMI doesn't send audio signal.. May have to do some modification to SSDT files?

Happy New Year btw

Joaotcs avatar Dec 29 '19 18:12 Joaotcs

Yes, you would have to modify the SSDT files to have audio through HDMI.

kinoute avatar Dec 30 '19 16:12 kinoute

Or maybe patch the UHD 620 with frame buffer.

kinoute avatar Dec 30 '19 16:12 kinoute

I fixed the issue with frame buffer! Thanks for the tip (Also, I used virtualSMC instead of FakeSMC which is more compatible with VoodooPS2). But now, I have discovered (but was present before) a problem after deep sleep. After deep sleep, the laptop loses performance, Chrome stays blank, videos (on VLC, quicktime etc don't work - they hang on loading..). But safari works. Do you happen to know why? I have read that sometimes it's the unsync CPU but we already have VoodooTSCSync, and also I have read the HECI to IMEI patch, but we already have.

Thanks!

EDIT: I have also tested to update VoodooI2C to 2.3, but it gets bugged (touchpad doesnt work properly after, keeps stopping when I move it. You probably have a modified version of VoodooI2C right?)

Joaotcs avatar Jan 02 '20 19:01 Joaotcs

I have this problem with the videos not working after sleep. According to the console log, this is due to the thunderbolt drivers I use for my dock station (the two repos I'm talking about on the bottom of the README file).

If you don't use any thunderbolt stuff, you can remove both of them.

The bad performances are due to the console being flooded by this bug.

Joaotcs avatar Jan 02 '20 22:01 Joaotcs

check your console after sleep and see if there is almost the same message flooding the console

kinoute avatar Jan 03 '20 11:01 kinoute

Keeping you posted on this, the problem persists after deleting those kexts. I have seen a post of Rehabman, he said once that it was due to USB ports on excess and not matching. That we should have SSxx ports in the same number as HSxx ports and that the total of ports should be 15 or less. I know hackintool can do that easily but I am not aware how..

If you have any idea, check on that ;) Regards

Joaotcs avatar Jan 09 '20 23:01 Joaotcs

software dev here , you're a G . Was going to buy a mac , but if this works , then i'll wait on it !

Hi buddy, can you please explain how exactly you fixed the issue with frame buffer?

And how did you install catalina? Did you just do a regular update via the appstore in mojave? :)

Thanks for your help and thanks to kinoute for your great EFI folder!

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 18 '20 11:01 Rixxx-git

btw: Any fix for the issue that the trackpad is not working for a second after using the keyboard?

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 18 '20 11:01 Rixxx-git

I'm curious: in what situation do you have to use the touchpad + the keyboard at the same time?

kinoute avatar Jan 18 '20 12:01 kinoute

Games for eg.

Joaotcs avatar Jan 18 '20 14:01 Joaotcs

I think its a protection against misclick of touchpad whilr you are typing. Before we could disable that. Now i cant fins that option. About catalina, Just do the upgrade normally.

About framebuffer, you can use clover, please look how on Internet guides.

Still, no fix for the vídeo bug after sleep.

Joaotcs avatar Jan 18 '20 14:01 Joaotcs

There is something to edit regarding misclick. You will have to dig into the kext thread on tonymac. I remembered seeing a link to a GitHub issue comment where you could change the value and it apparently worked for a lot of people. It was on the git repo of the kext.

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 19 '20 11:01 Rixxx-git

Do you guys think it's possible to get the two buttons above the trackpad to work as left and right mouse click? It worked before I exchanged my EFI for yours, but I don't know why?

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 19 '20 12:01 Rixxx-git

I don't know. I'm using the "little tap" feature on the trackpad for the left click and it's so nice, I could not live with it. No need to hard click, just touching like a real Mac.

kinoute avatar Jan 19 '20 13:01 kinoute

Regarding the trackpad, there is this Kext made by the team behind Whatevergreen, Lilu etc:

https://github.com/acidanthera/VoodooInput

It might worth a try.

Right click works great with touch, that is not the problem. But copying text can be hard. Would be nice to use the left button and the trackpad to copy text. Clicking the trackpad and copying or "three finger moving" doesnt work that good.

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 20 '20 07:01 Rixxx-git

I agree. Selecting text is hard, even with the 3 fingers feature.

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 20 '20 20:01 Rixxx-git

Many thanks for this repo. It's much easier for me to jump back to Hackintosh anytime. BTW. I think that front camara works just fine for me in my last setup. I need to check my latest backup of EFI. On my EliteBook is currently corporate image of Windows 10 :).

kecinzer avatar Jan 22 '20 07:01 kecinzer

@kecinzer Our hero is here! Thanks again. About the camera, it's weird.. Here I can see it being recognized but Photo Booth for example gives me a black screen (and no, I haven't put a sticker on my webcam )

The system reports it as:

HP HD Camera :

Identifiant du modèle :	UVC Camera VendorID_1266 ProductID_46567
  Identifiant unique :	0x1480000004f2b5e7

When trying to fix it, I remembered reading that UVC cameras were hard to hackintosh

kinoute avatar Jan 22 '20 08:01 kinoute

@kinoute Thank you for mentioned me, but the most credits is to @RehabMan :). It's possible that you have different front camera? I mentioned something about 120Hz display that you have that I definitely don't have.

kecinzer avatar Jan 22 '20 12:01 kecinzer

@kecinzer Yes, I have a 120 hz display which is rather funny for a laptop to work... There are so many different 850 G5 models according to the HP website, I might have a different screen/webcam combinaison indeed. For instance, some laptops even have a AMD RadeonTM RX 540 dedicated GPU.

Dude... Have you bough an hackintosh or installed yourself? I find it hard to believe you can't make a simple search on google.. Clover Configurator, Mount EFI, open config.plist and on SMBIOS, select the macbook 14.1 or 14.2. And click multiple times on serial number etc... Just see on youtube how it's done. But for this computer, you have to use macbook 14.1 or 14.2

Joaotcs avatar Jan 30 '20 17:01 Joaotcs

Done. But are you sure about 14.1 / 14.2? I chose Macbook Pro 15,2 because my HP 830 G5 has a i5 of the 8th generation.

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 30 '20 21:01 Rixxx-git

Thats okay also. Hdmi sound works?

Joaotcs avatar Jan 31 '20 15:01 Joaotcs

yes, all good. thanks again! do you use the build in trackpad? I have a magic trackpad and a bluetooth usb stick. works better for me. the built in one is not as smooth.

Rixxx-git avatar Jan 31 '20 18:01 Rixxx-git

Since I changed the SMBIOS I get logged out of my Apple ID a lot of times. Does anybody know why? My serial number is ok. I just checked it again (I get the red error message).

Rixxx-git avatar Feb 04 '20 19:02 Rixxx-git

That's normal. You MUST log out from iCloud and stuff before changing your SMBIOS.

kinoute avatar Feb 04 '20 19:02 kinoute

Yes, I logged out before I changed the SMBIOS like it says in the tonymac description. But afterwards I can login again, right? I get logged out on almost every startup since I changed the SMBIOS. That is what I mean.

Rixxx-git avatar Feb 04 '20 22:02 Rixxx-git

For what is worth, i think the bug after wake is because of the ssd. If you buy a better compatible nvme ssd it will solve that problem.

Joaotcs avatar Feb 10 '20 20:02 Joaotcs

Hello, I just started play with hackintosh again. After clean install of macOS 10.15.3, I used my last EFI, but I can't get touchpad to work. Even if I write "kextstat | grep Voodoo" I can't see loaded VoodooI2CHID. Does touchpad works normally for you?

kecinzer avatar Feb 14 '20 08:02 kecinzer

My touchpad works but I'm running Mojave 10.14.6.

kinoute avatar Feb 14 '20 09:02 kinoute

It starts to working after few reboots :). I already tried latest version of VoodooI2C and it still laggy, so I went back to 2.2.4 patched by @Erictoby Now I'm experimenting with OpenCore.

kecinzer avatar Feb 14 '20 09:02 kecinzer

I use 2.2 right now. Do you experiment difficulties to select big amount of text with the touchpad on 2.2.4? Like the cursor stopping while selecting the text.

kinoute avatar Feb 14 '20 09:02 kinoute

I have VoodooI2C 2.3 installed and the problem with copying a lot of text is still persistent for me. A fix for that would be very helpful!

Rixxx-git avatar Feb 14 '20 10:02 Rixxx-git

Yes, even with 2.2 erictoby version its very hard to select text. I hope there will be update to this kext. I’m used to use Macbook Pro touchpad instead of mouse so its very hard to use only touchpad on HP.

kecinzer avatar Feb 14 '20 18:02 kecinzer

@kecinzer Could you check if everything works fine for you after sleep? We experiment weird behavior after waking up. Some pages don't load (especially videos) and the Console is literally flooding messages about (in my case) what appears to be the Thunderbort/USB-C port.

It's the same for me. Everything about the HP 830 G5 works great but it's hard to use the trackpad if you are used to a real macbook trackpad. I bought an external magic trackpad and connect it via bluetooth. That works just like the original one, but it's not as handy because it's an external device.

Rixxx-git avatar Feb 15 '20 09:02 Rixxx-git

It was the same for me so I just decided to turn off sleep via terminal. Problem solved. 🙂

Not good enough? ;-)

Actually, that ssd is not very compatible with hackintosh.. If you had regular evo 970 yes, it was good. But the plus edition gives kernel panics etc..

Joaotcs avatar Feb 15 '20 17:02 Joaotcs

I never had any problem with it. All running smoothly.

I will check it. I run some tests with sleep and everything works normally after wake. Now I’m waiting for bigger SSD and I start using EliteBoot instead of my Macbook.

@Joaotcs where do you get this informations about SSDs?

kecinzer avatar Feb 16 '20 12:02 kecinzer

My touchpad is not working 830 G5. Can anyone give a suggestion to fix this?

RizanPSTU avatar Feb 17 '20 18:02 RizanPSTU

So far I don't have problems after wake from sleep, but after 2 - 3 sleeps I have problem to get into sleep. When I go to sleep after 2 or 3 times, it took so long and then restart. I have this panic log:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801c0a2d1c): Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while entering darkwake on way to sleep. Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHostFamily. Thread 0x6758. Failure code:: 0x9d5b3ef8 00000031

Currently I have SSD KGB30ZMV256G Toshiba

@RizanPSTU try more restarts. For me it tooks about 5 restarts to get working.

It is now finally working with a laptop touchscreen. :D https://gitlab.com/Rafsan_velo/hackintosh-830-g5/-/tree/stable

RizanPSTU avatar Feb 19 '20 08:02 RizanPSTU

I'm not sure about what you mean but you can use the "Kext Updater" app. It will automatically check for you the latest version of every kext you use (including Clover) and download them from you. That's a start. I use it to upgrade my kexts instead of manually going to every GitHub repo checking for new releases.

kinoute avatar Feb 19 '20 09:02 kinoute

Is this enough for catalina ? asjjkkkk

RizanPSTU avatar Feb 19 '20 10:02 RizanPSTU

RizanPSTU avatar Feb 19 '20 10:02 RizanPSTU

I thought VoodooInput was a drop-in replacement of VoodooI2C. You don't have any issues running these two kexts at the same time?

kinoute avatar Feb 19 '20 11:02 kinoute

I found what causing wrong sleep/wake behavior for me. It's USBc/Thunderbolt 3 port. After I disabled Thunderbolt and even USBc, laptop sleeps and wakes correctly. So I think there we need some extra patching for USB 3.1.

EDIT: Another investigation! I found Thundebolt mode under latest BIOS (http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/getpdf.aspx/4AA7-4375ENW.pdf) when I switched it back to "Legacy", now Hackintosh sleeps like baby and even USB-C to HDMI works like a charm!

So we need some new hacks or driver for that Thunderbolt Native + Low power mode.

Yes, this is what I was thinking according to the Console logs. Unfortunately for me, I use a Dock Station on this Thunderbolt/USB-C port at work, I can't disable it. I will add your solution to the README though, thanks!

kinoute avatar Feb 19 '20 13:02 kinoute

Do you have that Native/Legacy option for it? May be you can try.

kecinzer avatar Feb 19 '20 15:02 kecinzer

Yes I have it. I changed it a lot of times to make my Dock station work. I also, as my README stated, installed two kexts to make it work. Honestly, I prefer not to change it. I'm too afraid it will break something 😄. I disabled sleep, it's fine.

jcheunglin avatar Feb 29 '20 09:02 jcheunglin

@jcheunglin Hi. Unfortunately, my webcam still doesn't work

kinoute avatar Feb 29 '20 09:02 kinoute

Webcam doesnt work. The Best Wi-Fi card is dw1560 (small size) and the BCM94360CS2 which is way cheaper, but is a bit longer and needs an adapter. Also, I had to remove the GSM module from my laptop. But i paid 25eur instead of 60eur which is the price of dw1560 this days. It works in Windows and macos

Joaotcs avatar Feb 29 '20 12:02 Joaotcs

@kinoute i saw the discussion between you and kecianzer,Is the problem caused by the 120hz panel? my 830 g5 also have 120hz panel

@jcheunglin wow! does dw1560 work perfectly in win10 on your laptop? I tried it two month ago, but it finally caused win10 to freeze on 830 g5. 93460cs2 with adapter is too thick to cover the bottom.finally,i choose dw1820a(50rmb,about 6 euro)

Hey guys. Take a look at this - https://github.com/kecinzer/hpelitebook850g5-opencore I made fully working OpenCore configuration. You will need only to fill your serial numbers etc. in config.plist.

Awesome, thanks for sharing! What is better about OpenCore than this installation here?

OpenCore is new currently supported and developer bootloader with many new possibilities. I think that Clover is kind of "oldschool". And many Kexts are from same authors as OpenCore. They are implemented few of it directly into OpenCore. So I think some features going to be unsupported in Clover in future.

What do you mean by "Fully working?" Things that were not working with the previous Clover build like webcam are now working with OpenCore?

It depends on your HW. For my EB 850 G5 webcam works also with Clover. OC hack works fully on Clover SSDT.

It looks like latest BIOS update Q78 01.10.01 breaks hackintosh. We need to find what is changed...

I found fix for this :) https://github.com/sarkrui/NUC8i7BEH-Hackintosh-Build/issues/5

You like to live dangerously! What makes you update your BIOS when everything works fine? 😄

@kecinzer I added your OpenCore configuration in my README.

I like to have latest version of everything :).

I changed the Thunderbolt mode to "Legacy Mode" in the BIOS. I don't have the Thunderbolt error after waking up flooding my console, but I still can't play videos on youtube, twitch or whatever after sleep.

I tried this solution: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/solved-video-stuck-at-00-00-after-wakeup-intel-hd-520-sierra-hardware-decoding-problem.241977/

But it f*cks up my graphics completely (low resolution, no acceleration) so I had to rollback..

Ye, I think we have been looking to the wrong problem... It's not thunderbolt. If you disable it, it still happens that bug. I have also tried to change from VirtualSMC to FakeSMC, use CPUFriend, no solution...

Also added some clover fixes, no fix also.
