rdpx.v0380.zip\rdpx v0380\rdpx.exe triggers a malware warning from Microsoft Security Essentials

Open ReckonCiler opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Hi,

I downloaded the zip with the binaries rdpx.v0380.zip but when I extract it I get a message from Microsoft Security Essentials regarding a Medium level threat 'Win32/Uwamson.A!ml'.

Is this a false positive?

That specific malware warning is for a ransomware thing. I would recommend running the zip past another antivirus tool and scan your PC as well. It COULD be that your computer is compromised and it is a false positive in the sense that rdpx.exe comes up as a virus when it isn't, but that the exe you downloaded got infected during or after download.

Unfortunately (in my experience) anything compiled with common Python compilers will trigger antivirus warnings (if unsigned). I believe (and certainly hope) this is a false positive.

Feel free to delete the EXE and just run the python code directly in the python interpreter.
