...which is reflected in yum since repository does not have metadata.

Same on Ubuntu 16.10: $ sudo apt update [sudo] password for dev: E: Malformed entry 1 in list file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gingerbase-source.list (Component) E: The list of sources could not be read.
