Larger edits breaks refresh

At times, the diagram doesn't get refreshed anymore upon text edits. Larger edits seem to encourage this behavior, for instance, pasting a graph or replacing a graph that was open via a link with a single node.

I feel the issue is that the identifier matching in the background breaks and throws exceptions afterwards.
