Sync upcoming DVR schedules

We're currently unable to sync upcoming DVR schedules (in either direction). This is due to a limitation within the Androiid DVR implementation.

A issue has been filed with the Android team requesting this content is made available to the app:

Is there any where to support this further? I've starred the issue in the tracker but it would be great to reinforce this elsewhere for google as it seems a bit a miss to offer live channel support but not then deal with the recording aspect!

Is there anyway to bypass this on a rooted device, or by installing this as a system app? Because it seems unlikely that it will be fixed anytime soon, and having it available on a rooted device would be closest we can get for now.

Has this been recently revisited? I've just moved over from using my Vbox TV gateway to hosting a tvheadend server. The Vbox gateway Live Channels plugin supports both recording from the EPG, and allowing you to view the, and watch the recordings.
