Custom fields always set as required

@MrLuFo I tried to look into this, but I cannot reproduce the issue as specified. The fields are working as expected. Tested with Mysql and SQLite databases. No issues.

It is not possible to change the mail settings.

I tried to reproduce this, this seems to be working fine. @p0se is there any specific scenario you are seeing this issue?
