Questions on ft8_lib

Hello! I'm new to the protocol, and in general to this field, but I wanted to ask:

Free-text messages (up to 13 characters from a limited alphabet) (decoding only, untested)

Does this mean I can send normal text messages, like "Dogs like OJ"? If not, what is meant by it? Is this code only intended for messages such as these:

CQ {call} {grid}, e.g. CQ CA0LL GG77
CQ {xy} {call} {grid}, e.g. CQ JA CA0LL GG77
{call} {call} {report}, e.g. CA0LL OT7ER R-07
{call} {call} 73/RRR/RR73, e.g. OT7ER CA0LL 73

Also, when decoding, is it supposed to make a text file with the decoded message? Or does it just output it in the terminal?
