Twitter detecting proof post as spam and suspending account

Open ewzimm opened this issue 10 years ago • 6 comments

After posting my proof, I received an email from Keybase that my proof was broken and the following message from Twitter:

Twitter has automated systems that find and remove multiple automated spam accounts in bulk. Unfortunately, it looks like this account, @ewzimm, got caught up in one of these spam groups by mistake.

We apologize for this inconvenience. It’s possible your account posted an update that appeared to be spam, so please be careful what you tweet or retweet. You might also want to review our help page for hacked or compromised accounts: //support.twitter.com/entries/68916. You will need to change your behavior to continue using Twitter. Repeat violations of the Twitter Rules may result in the permanent suspension of your account.

This is the first we've heard of this. I'm hoping it wasn't caused by the Keybase proof itself setting off some kind of automated alarm. We have 20,000+ twitter proofs now, and I haven't heard of this happening before. But today could be the day.

I don't know whether to suggest you try a proof again or not, because I don't know what the risks are to your twitter account.

It's possible that it only triggered because this was a new account. I had used the same username for everything else, so as I was filling up my proofs, I decided it would be a good opportunity to bring my Twitter account in line. The proof is my first and only tweet so far. The thousands of proofs may have triggered something in Twitter's algorithms to make it suspicious.

If you suspect that keybase is the reason your account got locked/banned, I don't suggest you try it again. I would however suggest that we open up a dialogue with Twitter about any issues they may have with the service to avoid being blacklisted in the future.

I've recently received an suspension on a new account also for the same thing.

EMail from Twitter.
