Incoherent releases
The latest installer downloadable from the website shows the following version (Mac, Apple Silicon):
Version 6.2.5-20240101050825+3bdf76f84a (6.2.5-20240101050825+3bdf76f84a)
However, the releases on Github are at 6.2.4 which is really confusing.
Also, why are no signed checksums of the installers provided? That would improve confidence given the amount of private information that a user might manage via Keybase.
+1 for this - Its really hard to tell:
"what is the current release version of Keybase" on a website, I hoped to see the released version # here:
https://keybase.io/download
or even the "current release version" listed on GitHub in the right sidebar
For the record, I dont mind seeing different release version #'s depending on the platform, thats no problem
Perhaps you need a more automated workflow for releases that updates versions & things in all the right places :)
For the keybase client, on WINDOWS, I have to open the finder and find the binary or use the CMD line to see what version of keybase client is current installed
What about putting in "About Keybase" or under "Help" ?
Instead you have to open a command line window and type:
keybase version # print the version number
or right click on the app here: C:\Users\mbw\AppData\Local\Keybase\Gui
These kinds of things are important and add to the usability/trustability of an app - I hope your team can incorporate these as you go through growing pains of this app.
Developers: Thank you for your work on Keybase - its really a great app & great technology - we appreciate you !
