Play videos using only phone?
Hello,
First I want to say thank you for this great module. I hope this isn't a silly question, but how can I play YouTube videos using only the YouTube app?
To elaborate, the installation was successful. Once on the YouTube app on my phone, I am able to select any video and can choose my Raspberry Pi 3 as a device to cast to. I select my raspberry and the connection is successful. However, the play button is stuck on my phone (I press it over and over and it does nothing). Then, on my MagicMirror, there is only a black screen where the video is supposed to be. I know that by physically connecting a mouse to my Pi, I can scroll over to the black screen and simply click, and everything works perfect and the play button is no longer stuck on my phone and the world succumbs to my power. However, every time I disconnect my Pi and reconnect again, the black screen is back and will not play a video until I reconnect my mouse and click on the black screen again. Is there anyway to avoid this and just have the YouTube video automatically play as soon as the connection is successful? I would prefer to not have to connect my mouse every time. I presume this could be adjusted by modifying one (or multiple) of the .js files?
Any help, comments, or suggestions you could give would be most helpful.
Again, thank you for your work.
Hey @thejosehuerta!
So you should be able to control it completely from your phone's app. A pairing code gets sent that then pairs the two devices. I have a few questions for you:
- What phone/os version/youtube app version are you using?
- Are you running you MM on a pi/what version?
- Probably goes without saying, but are both the pi and phone on the same network?
Thanks!

I am having this same issue.
iPhone SE iOS 12.3
Youtube App -14.19
Magic Mirror on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
And both are on the same network
Hey @AltOfCtrl! So you are seeing the same issue that the video doesn't automatically play when you cast it? Are you able to manually start the video?

I can start the video by clicking on the black area where it should appear with my mouse via VNC Viewer. But it doesn't start without me doing that.

Hey! @AltOfCtrl, sorry it's been taking me forever to get back to ya, I have been slammed with work. Can you try a few things/answer these questions:
- Can you play and pause it with your phone?
- Can you select another video from your phone and does that video play?
Thanks!
Hello, I can confirm the problem that @thejosehuerta and @AltOfCtrl seem to be having on my MMM. Tested with the newest YouTube apps (14.38) on iOS and Android (iPhone X and Galaxy S8); Fresh install of MM and the MMM-Screencast-Module (other Modules are installed too, will try a fresh installation with only the MMM-Screencast-Module as soon as I am finished with my full configuration) The phone is able to Connect to the MMM and the YouTube window opens up just fine, however I have to manually click on the window (anywhere) to be able to start the video from my phone (If I try to click Play on the phone before clicking on the window, nothing happens). After that everything works very well and I have full control over the Screencast (Play/Pause as well as selecting videos). As soon as I disconnect from the MMM I have to go through that procedure again. Additionally, when I try to connect to your Module without having selected a video (connecting from the home screen of youtube) the following message ist displayed: "This version of YouTube will be going away soon. You'll still be able to view youtube.com, but you can get an optimized experience on a supported device. Check your device app store to see if the YouTube app ist available for install, or see a list of supported devices at yt.be/help/devices" (I don't think this is a problem, however I wanted to include it in case it helps) If you need any additional information - just tell me what you need :P I would be really happy to help fix this issue. Thanks for your work and help!
