Google Chat and Google Docs cannot read selected text

I'm having trouble using this extension with Google Apps like chat.google.com and Google Docs. In chat, when I select text and use my keyboard shortcut to start reading, it doesn't read the selected text. Right clicking on selected text and then Read Aloud, does work, although that is not as convenient as the keyboard shortcut. When I select text in a Google Workspace document and use the shortcut, it starts reading from the beginning of the document. It did not read the text selection only. This worked as expected recently. But today it's broken. This is a big problem of course. I have long documents and can't wait for the entire document to read each time I make edits and want to listen to them.

At least for the Google Docs use case you mention, this behavior is likely in the control of Google and which keyboard shortcuts they allow. Read Aloud will not be able to override this behavior with the current shortcuts

Per this Google support post, you cannot change your shortcuts within Google Docs.

It looks like the right-click method of reading text is working for you still, so even though it is not ideal, at least the extension still works for you if I understand your issue properly.

Edit: You may want to try and edit your Read Aloud Shortcuts as a work around
