Adding a .5 second or 1 second or 2 second pause after each sentence

I'm looking for a way to add a character or some type of combination of characters that will cause the reader to pause. Maybe some type of code? Like or <ESC>\pause=300\ or using '#' or "#"... I can make changes in the text. I just want some type of text or command I can put after the sentence that will make create more silence between the sentence that ends and the beginning of the next sentence. Do different voices allow for pauses? Is there any information on how to create pauses for different voices?
