Running into the same issue, on admittedly a weird platform to be trying to run QHangups on: SailfishOS! Running Python 3.7.2, and my traceback looks identical to the one above.

Oddly enough, it doesn't appear to _always_ still truncate tweets. For instance, when a treat reappears in the stream because it's been favorited by someone, the text then isn't truncated....
