In the chapter on ordered regression models, the text makes reference to the use of binary regression techniques using the term binary segmentation. Stephen R. Cole has a number of papers on "data expansion" for cumulative, continuation-ratio, and adjacent categories models fit with binary logistic regression. https://academic.oup.com/ije/article/33/6/1413/866475

One side point also, the Brant test has no alternative hypothesis as the only cumulative response model is the proportional odds model unless probabilities need not sum to one.
