macOS: periodic prompting for touchID while running in the background

Open jgoosens opened this issue 10 months ago • 3 comments

Description I get prompted for touchID every X minutes (the interval does not seem constant). This is very intrusive as the little touchID prompt appears out of nowhere, receives focus from the OS and interferes with whatever you are doing at the moment. To be quite clear: This happens at random while doing nothing password-related, e.g. just while writing something in a text editor, browsing the web, etc.

How to reproduce Not sure how to reproduce it. I've had this for a while now (also on the release prior to v1.54.156) and it persists across reboots. If any others encounter this issue, please comment that you're experiencing this problem as well under this issue.

Expected behavior Keepassium should only prompt for touchID when trying to complete a password field or when opening the app after it has locked. No periodic prompts.

Screenshots If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Environment:

  • Device: MacBook Air M3,
  • OS: macOS 15.3. The problem also occurred when i was still on 14.7.x (Can't remember the exact version I upgraded from)
  • App Version: v1.54.156

My issue seem to be a potential duplicate of #237, but as that was closed with a build nr ref that contains a fix and I am still experiencing the issue, I decided to reopen the issue here.

Thank you for the feedback! This does indeed look similar to #237, but after two years probably deserves a new issue.

Can you tell me your app timeout setting? (Settings → App protection → Timeout)

AppLock is enabled and the app timeout is set to 5min.

The strange thing is that this popup does not appear deterministically every 5min, but the interval appears to be quite random.

I came here to see if this issue had been reported because I experience the same behavior.

Environment:

Device: MacBook 14" M1-Max; MacBook 16" M3-Max OS: macOS 15.6.1. ( App Version: v2.3.163

Also have AppLock enabled, and also timeout set to 5 minutes.

My workaround is just to kill Keepassium Auto Fill when it pops up, and only start the app when I specifically need it, which isn't ideal but ok since I have KeepassXC installed as well. Keepassium operates flawlessly for me on iOS. But this is a certainly a bug for at least some users on MacOS. Happy to send diagnostics if helpful.

@kendocode , please try with v2.4. (Before updating, make sure that App Lock timeout is at least 10 seconds, the "Immediate" one is buggy on 2.4 and triggers even when showing settings.)

@keepassium -- have just installed 2.5.171 and am not noticing the popup so far. I'll report back if it should resurface, but am considering it fixed. Thank you!

Thank you, @kendocode. I'll close this then, and reopen once needed (if needed :)

Same here, I am on v2.4.169 at the moment and am also not seeing it for now. Also considering it fixed. Thanks!
