I think converting the text to a path is the best approach, just to guarantee quality. Icon size isn't the biggest concern, since most systems now have a fair bit...
@demoy most icons with text tend to have their texts changed to paths to ensure correct rendering... so aside from manually combing over all the icons and retyping the labels...
